The building and construction sector can play a major role in saving energy in Europe. The building and construction industry has a major role to play in reducing energy use and hence the emission of carbon dioxide resulting from fossil fuel generation of energy. Carbon dioxide emissions are the largest contributor to global warming.

The use of plastics in building and construction saves energy, reduces costs, enhances quality of life and helps to protect the environment at the same time. Plastics applications also tend to be easy to install and require minimal maintenance. As such very limited additional consumption over energy and resources is needed to ensure their continued functionality.

SlipSafe is a large scale collaborative project funded by the European Commission. Based on fundamental studies of the tribological phenomena of slip under varying environmental conditions, SlipSafe will develop new intelligent material formulations and processes to gain control of the interface between flooring and shoe.

Placard is co-funded by the Eco-Innovation initiative of the European Union. This project proposes the production and application of a new environmental friendly PLASTICIZER FOR SOFT PVC. The product promises improved environmental/economic sustainability and replicability in a joint-venture approach between chemical industries and an European network of plastic converters SMEs.
